A man and a woman were arrested after seizing unlicensed drugs, including so-called smart drugs.

About 200,000 doses of various pharmaceuticals were discovered during raids in Bournemouth, Dorset on Thursday.

They included erectile dysfunction pills, HIV medications, and modafinil, a narcolepsy drug that was supposed to improve cognitive function.

The two men were arrested for allegedly illicit trafficking and money laundering.

They were interrogated and indicted, announced the Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

The MHRA said that it was investigating a "network suspected of being involved in the illegal importation and supply of drugs."

Modafinil is licensed to treat narcolepsy, a sleep disorder, but has also been used by students and others in the belief that it boosts brain performance.

The government agency said that patients should always be wary of "buying potentially harmful or unnecessary unlicensed drugs sold by illegal online providers".
