The cities of Cardiff have joined Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona to demand the resumption of research on the plane carrying their missing striker, Emiliano Sala.
Guernsey police announced Thursday afternoon that the search for Sala and driver David Ibbotson was canceled, which prompted everyone's football to call in his recovery.
Messi and Maradona both posted messages on social media to support their cause, before Cardiff – who signed with Sala de Nantes last Friday – asked the authorities to resume searches to find the missing plane and its occupants .
Argentine President Mauricio Macri has also asked his foreign minister to formally send Britain and France requests to resume research, the prime minister's office said on Friday.

"We are still hopeful that the search mission will continue and that we will be able to locate Emiliano," Cardiff general manager Ken Choo told Cardiff Stadium on Friday.

Cardiff hired Sala, 28, against a club record to strengthen his offense. He had to start training on Tuesday.

Messi, writing about his Instagram story, said: "As long as there are still opportunities, a hint of hope, we ask you to continue to look for Emiliano.I send all my strength and my support to his family and friends #PrayforSala. "
Maradona, also posted on Instagram, pleads for further research, with the message: "Hope never dies".
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero used the #NoDejenDeBuscar hashtag on social media – "do not stop looking".
Nantes reacted angrily to the decision to officially cancel the search for the missing plane from Sala.
Coach Vahid Halilhodzic said: "For me it is a shame to stop in this way. It is an obligation for these people.
"It's a complete shame, you can not stop there, stop like that is unbearable and unacceptable, can you imagine the family?"

Sala's sister again asked rescuers to continue searching for the missing plane. Romina Sala told reporters Friday in Cardiff that she thought her brother and pilot were still alive. She also thanked the Argentinian players for their support.

Guernsey Harbor's captain, David Barker, acknowledged that Sala's family was "not satisfied" with the decision to stop actively seeking, but said that he was "absolutely confident "that nothing could be done and that the protocols of the British Coast Guard were followed.
