Legendary and Warner Bros. have already announced Detective Pikachu's sequel about three months before the release of the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The writer of 22 Jump Street, Oren Uziel, was recruited to write the script. Detective Pikachu is based on the Nintendo 3DS 2016 video game of the same name.
Detective Pikachu is the first real action movie of the Pokemon franchise. This is the real action in the same way that The King Lion, Disney's upcoming movie, is the real action, in the sense that the characters are real, but all Pokémon are (obviously) animated.
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds expresses the voice of a very talkative Pikachu who meets former Pokémon coach Tim Goodman. Goodman can somehow understand the language of Pokémon, while for others, it looks like any other Pikachu. The Japanese voice Ikue Ōtani provided the usual sounds of Pikachu.
Goodman's father was a prominent detective, Harry Goodman, who disappeared in a car accident. Pikachu, called Inspector Pikachu, was a Harry's Pokémon. Tim reluctantly badociates with the Pokémon to solve the mystery and find his father.
The trailer of the movie has attracted a lot of attention on YouTube. He recorded 55 million views. The choice of Reynolds as Pikachu was hailed. Reynolds' Deadpool group is also similar, although unlike the superhero movie series, Detective Pikachu is probably aiming for a PG rating.
The confidence placed in the film suggests that executives enjoyed a first cut of the film and want to make a franchise. Detective Pikachu will have to face the Avengers: the badault of the final stage in the theaters. The finale ends just two weeks before Detective Pikachu. If Detective Pikachu succeeds among the critics, it would be the first video-game-based movie to do so.
Detective Pikachu is released on May 10, 2019.
