WhatsApp today confirmed that it would limit the number of talks to five, a limit that now applies globally and not only to the Indian market.
As of July 2018, the email application owned by Facebook had been restricted to twenty discussions in the world, but the limit for India was less than five. WhatsApp will now apply this five-thread limit to all of its global users.
In an official WhatsApp statement, they made this decision after evaluating this test and based on user feedback over a six-month period. According to WhatsApp, the new "transmission limit has significantly reduced the number of messages transferred worldwide."
WhatsApp indicates that the limit is being scaled up globally to address the problem of viral content on the platform.
The WhatsApp update states: "Starting today, all users of the latest versions of WhatsApp can now transmit to only five chats at the same time, which will allow WhatsApp to remain focused on private messaging with close contacts. We will continue to listen to user feedback about their experience and, over time, look for new ways to process viral content. "

In simple terms, anyone using the latest version of WhatsApp will now find that their transfer options are limited to five threads. In India, WhatsApp had applied this limit to limit the increasing use of the application to transmit false news and fake messages, some of which had resulted in crowd violence and lynching in the country.
WhatsApp had previously stated that it was in India that people were transmitting more messages, photos and videos than any other country in the world.
India is also the most important market for WhatsApp, with nearly 250 million active users. The company had also announced a tag transfer function for all these messages last year.
The idea was to warn users that the message they were reading was a message before, and not necessarily something that had been composed by their friend or contact who had conveyed the message.
WhatsApp has also organized digital literacy workshops in India and has even launched advertising campaigns in India against the spread of misinformation and false information on the platform.
