Abu Dhabi: Head coach Felix Sanchez called Qatar's 1-0 victory over the Republic of Korea in the quarter-finals of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, a historic moment for its players and the West Asian nation.
Abdelaziz Hatim made a superb strike in the second half and allowed the Qataris to qualify for the first time in the semifinal of the AFC Asian Cup.
While the United Arab Emirates were ready to face Qatar in the last four games, Sanchez, aware of the challenge for his young accusations, was quick to stress the importance of the result for a team that has become serious contenders for the title.
"It was a great day for us and we achieved something historic," said the Spaniard.
"I want to congratulate the players because they have achieved something great for the country. One of the key elements of this team is that as a group, they are exceptional. "

"They know the importance of winning games in this competition and celebrate every victory.
"Today, we have taken another step forward, at this moment the emotions are strong, we will celebrate but we have an even bigger game to come and we have to be ready for that."
Although Qatar's presence in the past four seasons is undoubtedly an indication of the quality of the team, it also represents the achievement of the long-term goal of being at the same level as the Asian elite.
"I am the happiest coach in the world today, what the players have done is amazing for us and for the country," Sanchez said.
"Even if we take it on a case-by-case basis, because that's the only way we can do it, we've come here to show that we can compete with the best in Asia.
"At the moment, my players have shown that they are able to compete, perform well and get positive results at an official competition, which is most important for a player.
"We are very proud of them and hope now that we can continue in the same way."
