A mother who had saved £ 250,000 from neuro-surgery had been put on hold after her bank had triggered a fraud alert when she had tried to pay doctors.
Samantha Smith had traveled from Rochdale, Arizona for the Ehlers-Danlos syndrome-impaired neck reconstruction operation.
Ms. Smith stated that Barclays had blocked the transfer of funds despite notice, causing the postponement.
The bank said it had an obligation to check unusual transactions.
Ms. Smith stated that she hoped that the operation would be postponed shortly.
The age of 32 was diagnosed with rare connective tissue disorder in 2017.
The muscles in Ms. Smith's neck, mother of two, are too weak for her to hold her head upright without using a neck brace and have put pressure on her brainstem.
The procedure for fusing the bones of her spine is neither offered nor funded by the NHS and Mrs. Smith has raised £ 250,000 through crowdfunding and events allowing her to attend the Mayo Clinic for surgery .
Barclays halted a deal as she was attempting to pay pre-operative costs for an operation on Friday.
Mrs. Smith spent two and a half hours on the phone with the bank, but the lifting of the restrictions on her account came too late for the clinic, which then canceled the operation.
She said it was "tough" to have the operation "taken away with the money we have" but that she was trying to stay positive for her children.
A spokesman for a bank said he had a duty to check unusual transactions with his clients.
"We have now established contact with the customer and are helping to solve the problem so that the payment can be processed as quickly as possible," added the spokesman.
