TESCO plans to cut 15,000 jobs as part of a £ 1.5 billion economy measure that will shut down fish and meat counters across the country, it was said.

Bakeries will also be rehabilitated, with the supermarket giant ordering staff to use pre-frozen dough instead of on-site manufacturing.

The Mail on Sunday states that the change will also result in the closure of staff canteens and their replacement by vending machines.

The plans are expected to reach the majority of Tesco's 732 department stores – and come despite profits of £ 1.3 billion last year.

Job losses were planned by maverick CEO Dave Lewis, who gained £ 4.87 million last year.

The Chief Executive Officer received a short-term bonus of £ 2.28 million in addition to his base salary of £ 1.25 million.

Last year, Tesco announced plans to "simplify" the structure of its store teams, putting 1,700 jobs at risk.

Sainsbury's and Morrisons did the same thing at about the same time, while Asda began consulting more than 2,500 potential employees last October.

Tesco aims to achieve cost savings of 1.5 billion pounds by 2020 – and its managing director, Dave Lewis, has already cut more than 10,000 jobs since its acquisition of the supermarket giant in 2014.

Just last week, Marks & Spencer also announced 17 store closures putting more than 1,000 jobs at risk.

Yet, other layoffs are on the horizon for 2019, with 150,000 people having lost their lives in brutal conditions last year.

The £ 15bn merger between Sainsbury & # 39; s and Asda also raised fears of rising store prices, store closures and job losses.
