Women's SmackDown Championship Match
Asuka (c) against Becky Lynch
What should you do when you lose your title in a triple threat without getting pinned and contractual adjustments are no longer guaranteed?
You do it the hard way.
The road to Royal Rumble
Becky Lynch was beaten for her SmackDown Women's Championship at TLC in a match where she has never suffered a submission or a pin fall. It was also the worst time to suffer such a loss; The night after its defeat, the McMahon family decided to radically change the game among its brands, including removing contractual retaliation.
So, despite the loss of his title without ever falling, Lynch was back to square one. And if she wanted to recover her title, she should do it by getting the # 1 candidate for the title. She, along with Charlotte Flair and Carmella, pleaded their case before the McMahons and were finally asked to settle in the ring.
Lynch caught several finishers in this match and was still resourceful enough to get the support needed for the win and his title game at the World Championship. Royal Rumble. Lynch spent the last few weeks talking about everything that was wrong with the champion. Everything was centered on him to be "the man".
After TLC, Asuka has declared the New Man. Lynch retorted that the man was more than a champion and that Asuka was not sorry to have never won over Lynch, told him everything she needed to know the current champion.
Asuka's answer? Speak less. Smile Fight more.
What is at stake?
A lot.
The winner of the games for the title at the Royal Rumble generally walk in WrestleMania as a champion. So whoever wins this match has a good chance of representing his mark on the biggest stage of all.
But it's almost a secondary issue in this one. Becky Lynch has been a hell to walk on SmackDown Live, which has generated the most buzz among all WWE superstars in recent months. Her bold and daring personality has taken over the series and she is challenging Asuka with this match to upgrade.
Lynch is right, after all. Asuka has never conquered his tete-a-tete. And if the current champion can not do it? Well, she does not merit to be the champion at all, does she?
This quarrel became violent in a hurry, so I expected a similar match. It seems like the kind of match that should unfold early, too, considering the fireworks that will inevitably occur.
