Southampton fans react on Twitter to the transfer of Cedric Soares to Inter Milan

The loan agreement of the ace of Portugal comes with an option to buy, but some supporters of the Saints worry about seeing their numbers more and more reduced.

Southampton has confirmed on its official website that Cedric Soares has finalized his loan transfer to Inter Milan, a Serie A, until the end of the season.

The Portuguese international and Euro 2016 winner joined the Italian squad for a final change this summer, which according to BBC Sport would cost Nerazzurri £ 9.5 million.

Soares joined Southampton from Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon in 2015 and made 119 appearances for the South Coast club in three and a half years at St Mary's, as reported on the Saints' official website.

According to BBC Sport, Inter's decision to take advantage is due to the concern of Sime Vrsaljko, loaned by Atletico Madrid, which would have been considered as an alternative, notably Matteo Darmian, Manchester United.

In addition to confirming Soares 'departure, the Saints' statement suggests that manager Ralph Hasenhuttl recruits an academy player in his place, highlighting the emergence of Yan Valery and Kayne Ramsay since the arrival from Austrian to club.

This is how Southampton fans reacted on Twitter after the club announced the departure of the Portuguese:

A player who cared more about his social media than about his football skills. No big loss. #saintsfc

I have never evaluated Cedric. His first game for Saints against Everton and I remember that Lukaku had absolutely smothered him. Not pissed that he left as an individual, but very nervous about the team's leanness. Ik ralph likes a small team but 18-20 players is very small for Prem.

To be honest, I never evaluated the guy, his defense was devilish most of the time and his crosses were sometimes catastrophic. I hope that he is fine at Inter but that he will not miss me. Slightly annoyed, we seem to lend to everyone at no cost!

Good luck to Cedric! But … Maybe we can sign someone too? I mean that Valery is amazing, but still young and inexperienced if he gets hurt, we could have problems. Maybe someone like Dumfries from PSV? He is a promising prospect and perfectly fits the style of RH … #SaintsFC

The whole movement of transfer is one way, we only have teenagers left, we have to save a fortune now, so maybe the time to sign

And who comes to replace these international players? If it's our "youngest", then let's pray for us to stand up and say goodbye to more ST holders next season. #wherestheambition
