Alberta Health Services are encouraging people who have eaten at the Auditorium Hotel or at the JT Foster School in Nanton on certain dates this month to call Health Link ( 811) and monitor their health status after a confirmed case of hepatitis A.
"Although we believe the risk to the public is low, hepatitis A is a serious infection," said Dr. Jia Hu, SSA Medical Officer of Health for the Calgary area, in a statement released Friday after -midday. "As a precaution, anyone who has eaten food at the Auditorium Hotel on January 11 and 18 or bannock of JT Foster School on January 17 is advised to monitor their symptoms and those of their family for the next 50 days. their last exposure. "
Anyone who dined at the hotel on the day or ate the bannock bread prepared by the JT Foster School Outdoor Club may have been exposed to hepatitis A. Vaccination can be given in the 14 days after exposure and often prevents the onset of the disease.
The restaurant has since been cleaned, inspected and deemed safe by public health inspectors and poses no risk to the public.
AHS Public Health is trying to contact people at risk through the school and vaccination clinics are being organized.
The first symptoms of hepatitis A normally appear within 15 to 50 days of exposure and include:

Anyone who has eaten food at one or the other place on specified days and with symptoms of hepatitis A is asked to contact Health Link immediately (811).
