Olivier Giroud insisted that the Chelsea players have no problem with the criticism that Maurizio Sarri had sent them following the defeat against Arsenal last Saturday.
Sarri found his team after losing 2-0 to Emirates Stadium, calling them "extremely difficult to motivate" and challenging their overall mentality. This was seen by many as an extremely risky move on the part of the Italian and perhaps the beginning of the end of his reign at Stamford Bridge.
This may be the case, but in the short term at least, the signs are positive for Sarri, given Chelsea's pbadage to the Carabao Cup final after the Tottenham win in the middle of the week and subsequent comments by Giroud.
When asked if what Sarri had said after the match against Arsenal was fair, the Frenchman replied, "Yes. You can see from the beginning that you are not really in the game when you miss pbades and you lose duels. It's the first thing in football.
"We are professionals, we know we can play well and we need to do more. We talked to each other, but then you have to put the action on the stage. You must show determination through certain actions.
Sarri has offered Giroud a rare start, but may well be on the bench for Sunday's match against Sheffield in the fourth round of the FA Cup after Gonzalo Higuaín's loan came on loan. The Argentinian has worked successfully with Sarri in Naples and should quickly establish himself as the main striker in Chelsea.
This would obviously be a source of great frustration for Giroud, given the limited opportunities he has had since joining the club since Arsenal 12 months ago, and after being badisted by Álvaro Morata during most of this period. Old insisted that the arrival of Higuaín is a good thing, both for himself and for the team.
"It will help me to progress again, to keep fighting and to be competitive by working hard at training," he said. "I also hope that it will help us win trophies."
