Quagliarella, who turns 36 next week, matched the goal after converting a penalty in 31 minutes and added a second, again, in the 56th minute.

The evergreen striker also played a role in the other two goals – preparing Karol Linetty's third goal in 68 minutes and the decisive center for Manolo Gabbiadini to shoot after ten minutes.

He left on the field with a standing ovation six minutes from the end.

Batistuta scored at least one goal per game in the first 11 matches of the 1994-1995 season for Fiorentina. Argentina then finished the season as top scorer with 26 goals.

Quagliarella had one of the best seasons of his career with Sampdoria.

He has scored 14 goals in 11 games for a total of 16 goals this season, to rank among the top scorers in Serie A in front of Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo (14).

The Italian international was the top scorer of his career with 19 goals last season.

He joined the Genoa club in 2016 after already playing for teams such as Juventus, Naples and Turin.

Sampdoria reached sixth place, the last place for the Europa League, and only one point of the Champions League.
