LOS ANGELES – Jay Asher, author of the hit novel "Thirteen Reasons Why" which has become a Netflix series, is suing a group of writers on charges of harbading women.
Asher's lawsuit for defamation, filed Friday in Los Angeles, says his family, career and reputation have been damaged by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and its executive director, Lin Oliver.
Oliver told The Associated Press last year that the group had investigated and concluded that Asher had violated his code of conduct. Asher says that both statements are false.
According to her complaint, anonymous emails sent to the group falsely claimed that Asher had been badually seduced, before threatening seven members of silence.
Andrew Baum, a lawyer for Oliver, said the lawsuit was unfounded and that it was an attempt to repair Asher's reputation.
