New evidence in the case of a Ghana accused of killing the American assassin

Daniel Kankam, a 44-year-old Ghanaian living in the United States, complained about the alleged murder of his girlfriend because she wanted to break up with him.

Prosecutors on Thursday presented evidence that Kankam, a married father of two in Alexandria, Virginia, who owns a security company, killed and killed his 35-year-old girlfriend Somaya Hussein.

Police said Kankam killed Ahmed at his home in the block of South Van Dorn Street in Alexandria just before midnight on January 11.

In addition to their relationship, Ahmed worked for Kankam in his company, K-1 Tactical Security Services, on Edsall Road in Alexandria, prosecutors said.

Kankam appeared in court on Thursday and his lawyer asked the judge to set bail, saying that Kankam was very stressed in prison.

"If the Commonwealth claims you put a firearm in your client's mouth and pulled the trigger, it would be stressful," said a prosecutor.

Video

The prosecutor said that Ahmed's cell phone was recording a video the night she was shot while she had told Kankam that she wanted to end their relationship.

"You piss me off," Kankam told him in the recording.

He was reportedly seizing the phone before the end of the recording, prosecutors said.

Investigators believe that soon after the recording, Kankam put the gun in the victim's mouth and shot.

Kankam then attempted to create an alibi by sending a text message to the victim's mobile phone "Where are you?"

Prosecutors said Kankam threatened to shoot Ahmed at least once more. Another video taken on his phone in October 2018 shows the couple sitting in front of his apartment. You can hear her tell her that she wants to break up.

The video would show that Kankam pulled out his gun and pointed it at her.

"Are you going to shoot me?" Ahmed asks.

The video would show that Kankam put the gun back in the holster.

Woman in tears

Kankam's wife wiped her tears as she listened to the details of the case on Thursday. She declined to comment as she left the court.

The couple's house is just steps away from the murder scene.

Authorities found six firearms, including an AR-15, during a search of Kankam's apartment and storage unit, prosecutors said.

Defense lawyers have argued that guns should not ring the alarm because Kankam was the owner of a security company.

The judge rejected Kankam's bail request.
