Ya Na Abubakari Mahama II is the new suzerain of Dagbon
The British government, through its High Commission in Ghana, has welcomed the inclusion of a new Ya Na in the state of Dagbon in the Northern Region after nearly two decades of conflict between leaders.
The coronation ceremony of Ya Na Abubakari Mahama II as overlord of Dagbon took place on Friday, January 25, 2019, after kingmakers had concluded his consultations and presented his candidatures following the burial of two deceased suzerains of Dagbon.
In an article posted on Facebook, the High Commission of the United Kingdom in Ghana said: "We are pleased to represent the United Kingdom at the investiture of Her Royal Highness Yaa Naa Abukari II.
"We wish him and the people of Dagbon peace and prosperity for many years".
Context
Following the badbadination of the late Ya Na Yakubu Andani II in 2002, the government of John Agyekum Kufuor created the Committee of Eminent Chiefs to help find a solution to the crisis.
The Committee, in November 2018, presented to President Nana Akufo-Addo a definitive roadmap for peace, which allowed the successful holding of the funeral of the last two Ya Nas families, which paved the way for the installation of a new Overlord. .
