DCC links Salmonella outbreak in multiple states with hedgehogs

Beware of cute hedgehogs: Centers for Disease Control and Protection (CDC) have recently linked a recent outbreak of salmonella to small animals.

On Friday, a CDC page revealed that the disease had infected 11 people in eight states. Ninety-one percent of the sick people told the CDC that they were in contact with hedgehogs. As a result of these interviews, CDC laboratory data showed that these tiny pets are likely to be causing the salmonella outbreak.

According to the federal agency, the outbreak strain was found in samples taken from three hedgehogs located in the homes of two sick patients. The CDC said the joint supplier of hedgehogs involved in this outbreak had not yet been identified.

Although hedgehogs may look healthy outside, the CDC said that these small mammals could carry salmonella. germs in their poop. These germs can then spread to their living spaces, toys and bedding, which can make caregivers sick.

The CDC also advised the guards not to "kiss or cuddle hedgehogs" because Salmonella disease can easily spread to their hands, face and mouth. So cuddling with these spiky animals is forbidden at the moment.
