Facebook's general manager, Mark Zuckerberg, plans to integrate WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook messaging services and incorporate point-to-point encryption for these applications, the New York Times reported on Friday.
However, the three services will remain independent applications, the report said, citing four people involved in this effort.
The measure is still in its infancy and it is planned to complete the integration by the end of this year or the beginning of 2020, he added.
Facebook did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
After the changes, a Facebook user can, for example, send a coded message to a person with only a WhatsApp account, depending on the report.
Point-to-point encryption prevents other users from seeing messages except for conversation participants.
