A pregnant two-year-old mother has been sleeping on her couch for years because the problem of mold in her home is so bad.

Abbie Cook Dukes stated that she had repeatedly complained to the housing group – Walsall Housing Group – but that the problem had not been solved properly.

The 23-year-old had to throw away a wardrobe, chest of drawers, two baby carriages, two cribs, mats and a bed because they were infested with moisture.

But she worried mostly about the impact on the health of her two sons.

"We were all sleeping on the living room couch because the rooms are really bad.

"Mold and moisture are constantly destroying our items. These items are not cheap. "

Since moving into the apartment in August 2015, Abbie and her mother, Joanna, have asked Walsall Housing Group for help, but said she was told it was just condensation.

They hired a lawyer in September 2016 after the birth of Abbie's second son.

She claimed compensation but said the problem was still not resolved.

Joanna Dukes said, "The Walsall housing group was supposed to solve the problem. They were supposed to install scaffolding on the outside and sort the walls. This has never been done.

"They have been painted on, but that does not solve the problem, you can smell it and taste it as soon as you walk it.

"It makes children sick." She and the boys sleep in the living room on the couch while both rooms have a foul odor.

"Does my daughter have to raise another baby in these conditions?

"Moisture rises through the floor to damage furniture and carpets. It's unhealthy, it smells and they should be moved.

However, Nigel Harris, Walsall Housing Group's Housekeeping Manager, said that Abbie herself caused the problem by using a clothes dryer in an unventilated room.

"We take the health and safety of our customers very seriously, and in 2016, when we learned about these issues, we proceeded with major renovations to the property to address moisture and agreed to Financial compensation with Mrs. Cook-Dukes.

"After a visit to the property before Christmas, investigators discovered that the recent mold resulted from condensation due to the use of a dryer in an unventilated room.

"We have informed the customer on ways to avoid the formation of condensation in the future, and now that the parts have been properly ventilated, we will treat and repaint the walls urgently."
