UK union seeks urgent discussions with Tesco over job cuts report

LONDON (Reuters) – Britain's Unite union said on Monday it was looking for urgent talks with Tesco's management after the newspaper's announcement Sunday that the supermarket group plans to scrap it up. 15,000 jobs.

Tesco is the UK's largest private sector employer with more than 300,000 people.

Unite said the program was recognized in four distribution centers with approximately 1,000 members delivering to Tesco stores in the UK.

"While reports of in-store job losses, such as in bakeries and deli counters, we still need to know what this could mean for our members," said Adrian Jones, National Manager. of distribution at Unite.

The Mail on Sunday reported that the changes could jeopardize up to 15,000 jobs, which should affect the majority of Tesco's 732 largest stores.
