Professor Stephen Adei was the Rector of GIMPA
The National Association of Teachers of Ghana (GNAT) has invited the former rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei, to apologize to its members for calling them "Pure criminals".
Professor Adei told Benjamin Akakpo on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019, during the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Clbad91.3FM, that Ghanaian teachers of public elementary schools are "pure criminals" because "they do not belong to the school". do not teach "but take their salary. send their children to private schools.
In his opinion, this attitude of teachers affected the quality of primary education.
In an interview with Ahomka FM, Dr. Isaac Owusu, president of the central region of GNAT, described Professor Adei's comment as regrettable and asked for an apology.
"I've also heard what our senior clbadmate, Professor Stephen Adei, has said about teachers in this country and, in fact, it's not the first time he's speaking. He is our eldest and a very respectable man, so we sometimes do not want to treat him like we do to others …
"It's indeed an insult. Yes, indeed, as in every institution or profession, you can find one or two teachers among us who are doing what is not planned, but that does not mean that you should generalize the fact that all teachers are criminals.
"It's very unfortunate, so we, GNAT members in the region, welcome it to apologize to all teachers before it spawns us."
