Chelsea hopes to win the race of Antoine Semenyo, the teenager from Bristol City, and could be on the verge of finalizing an agreement after the recall of the striker of an impressive loan agreement with League 2 club, Newport County.
Exiles are currently witnessing an FA Cup fairy tale, famously defeating Premier League club Leicester in the fourth round, before being matched by a stoppage of play against Middlesbrough this weekend.
Semenyo, 19, scored six goals in 32 appearances for Newport, including the two famous FA Cup results, before Bristol City announced his return to Ashton Gate on Sunday night. Now, it seems that the spotlight won by the surprising race at the Cup could well lead the young player to move to Stamford Bridge.
BristolLive says an agreement is about to materialize, with the 19-year-old being ready to connect with the Chelsea youth group after completing his move.
An offer was launched last week and an announcement could be made Monday night.
It has already been reported that £ 2m would be enough to sign Semenyo, a native of London, while Manchester United has also been designated as a potential contender for the rising star.
Semenyo has made a serious impression in the lower leagues in recent years, with impressive periods with Bath City and County arriving on both sides of his first-team debut for Bristol City last May.
