Ghanaian security agencies, working in collaboration with Interpol, have arrested the second suspect in the murder of Adams Mahama, former president of the NPP in the Upper East region.

Mr. Mahama was attacked in front of his home in Bolgatanga by an acid that resulted in his death in May 2015.

At the press conference of the minister in Accra, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said the fugitive Asabke Alangdi had been arrested in Ivory Coast after more than a year of surveillance and search, during which period he had transferred camps from Burkina Faso to Côte d? Ivoire.

Mr. Asabke was the second person suspected of conspiring with the first suspect, Gregory Afoko, during the murder of the deceased.

Investigations revealed that his death was caused by both Afoko and Alangde. Alangde, however, fled Ghanaian jurisdiction in the days following the murder and has been on the run ever since. Ghanaian security agencies have been looking for him ever since.

Mr. Afoko, however, was apprehended by the police and has since been tried. The case is currently being tried by Judge L Mensah sitting as Deputy Judge at the High Court and was sent back to February 2019 to allow lawyers to address the jury.

The minister said that as long as this trial was ongoing, constant efforts were under way to apprehend fugitive Alangde.
"He was arrested on Friday, January 25, 2019 with the badistance of Interpol," he added.

Mr Nkrumah said that the recent arrest of Asabke Alangde, a suspect in the case, had required the filing of a Nolle Prosequi regarding the ongoing trial in the case of the Republic against Gregory Afoko.

The Minister of Information has revealed that the procedure of imprisonment of the two accused will soon begin to allow them to be tried as soon as possible.
