Seth Akoto, Culture Manager at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who shared this fact with Accra, added that out of 77 private companies that had applied for fertilizer under the program, 34 had been selected to provide inorganic type, while eight provide organic fertilizer.

Commercial Farmers

Mr. Akoto badured that commercial farmers would be supported by the PFJ because they had not been excluded from the program.

"What we usually do is if you're a commercial farmer and you want to participate, you write a letter to the minister for approval and, based on its content, the minister will forward it to us and we'll make sure that you get the necessary inputs as a commercial farmer, "he explained.

Mr Akoto pointed out that since the introduction of the program in 2017, these modalities existed and that there was no time for commercial farmers to be discriminated against.

He explained that the Ministry limited to two the number of hectares required for support in order to allow many farmers to qualify, adding that if this was not in place, inputs would only be provided to commercial farmers.

Seed suppliers

Ms. Felicia Amprofi, Director of the Ministry's Regulatory and Plant Protection Services, said that for the 2019 farming season, the ministry had declared "Clean Seeds".

She explained that it was the ministry's responsibility to ensure that quality seeds were provided to farmers. In addition, the ministry had increased the budget allocation to this area to ensure that seed breeders do a good job.
