The flag bearer hoping the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is still wondering why former President John Mahama wants to challenge him.
Professor Joshua Alabi believes that the former president is an exhausted force and his selection would be detrimental to the CND's quest to win the 2020 general election.
The Russian-trained academy revealed this on Monday as part of Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen program.
The former Greater Accra regional minister is one of the seven candidates who vie for the post of CND president.
Many political experts have said that the February 23 primaries would be a snap for former Mahama president, who was sold by the party.
But Professor Alabi said that he was the first to declare his intention to challenge as such, it should be presented as the best bet.
He explained that the country's largest opposition party is at a crossroads and needs someone like him to take it to the promised country.
Professor Alabi pointed out that the CND needed a candidate who would reinvigorate and revitalize the base in order to work hard for victory in 2020.
"We need a leader who can lead the party for eight years, because development in the country takes time. If Mahama is elected, he has only one mandate that will affect the NDC, "he added.
Professor Alabi stressed that the NDC's chances of winning the 2020 elections would be low if John Mahama was elected flag bearer.
Measured expectations
According to Professor Alabi, supporters of former President John Mahama should be cautious in their expectations before the party's flag bearer elections.
Professor Joshua Alabi, who is now one of the main competitors in the race, said that John Mahama's fans would scoff at the wrong side of his mouth when he was declared the NDC's flag bearer.
"In the US elections, everyone said that Hilary Clinton would win. In 2016, everyone said that NDC would win, but what happened? Cool chop for Mahama? I laugh to enter my room, he boasted.
"I'm going to give him a boost for his money," Professor Alabi told John Mahama to prove his popularity on the battlefield.
