The Foundation of Physicians and Surgeons of Ghana, North America, has indicated its willingness to partner with its local counterparts in Ghana to improve the health care delivery system in the country.

The group, which has about 1,500 specialists, aims to leverage the expertise of its members, in partnership with the private sector, to make Ghana the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to provide a modernized health care system.

This health system would answer for all the health needs of citizens and residents of other regions of the world.

This was announced when the executive of the Foundation on Monday called President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to Jubilee House in Accra.

This call followed a discussion between the Foundation and the President during his visit to Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, last year.

Professor Elijah Paintsil, Senior Vice President of the Foundation, told President Akufo-Addo that the group wanted to give back to Ghana what she had given them in caring for their careers.

He said he was dissatisfied with mortality statistics because of the lack of specialized health care and infrastructure and expressed the hope that, thanks to their intervention, the deficits in the delivery of essential health care in Ghana would be resolved.

"We want to play our part in Ghana's development, we have acquired the skills Ghana needs, and we need to benefit the country's health system."

Professor Paintsil therefore sought the President's intervention to realize their vision, saying that their efforts would contribute to the vision of the President of Ghana Beyond Aid.

"We have been watching from the sidelines and we love your leadership style, we want to share with you a legacy you can leave, a modernized health system," he said.

President Akufo-Addo, who was enthusiastic about the Foundation's decision, said: "Your mission is excellent, exceptionally positive and progressive."

"I have no difficulty in accepting this offer as it is of considerable benefit and I am quite willing to facilitate the idea as it is useful and beneficial as it would improve the health care situation in the country. "

President Akufo-Addo said the quality of Ghanaian health professionals, at home and abroad, was clear, and that if the diaspora pooled their vast expertise with their local counterparts, Ghana have the best health care system of all time.

"If we could find a vehicle and how to bring all the synergies together to be involved in the concept, Ghana would benefit tremendously," he said.
