Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah
The government denied extensive media reports that President Nana Akufo-Addo had asked President Nana Akufo-Addo to resign before March this year.
Reports released on Friday indicated that the presidency had instructed the CEOs of some eight public institutions to undertake mandatory retirement.
The chief executives concerned were Mr. Eugene Ofosuhene, 67, Controller and General Accountant, Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, 68, General Manager of Ghana Industrial Holding Corporation (GIHOC); Mr. Isaac Osei, 67, General Manager of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR); Mr. Kwame Owusu, 67, Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority and Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, 65, Director General of the Forestry Commission.
The others are Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, 65, General Manager of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Samuel Annor, 64, CEO of the National Health Insurance Authority and MKK. Sarpong, 65, CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, however, asked journalists, the general public and institutions, to ignore the list of CEOs who circulated and were dismissed because of age.
According to the Minister of Information, "while the President has the prerogative to engage or disengage the services of CEOs of state-owned enterprises, he exercises these powers after commitments If the President had to choose at any time to withdraw from the services of any CEO, this will be done as always, in accordance with the established procedure.
