Apple and Aetna Launch Attain App to Boost Healthy Behavior

Insurance giant Aetna has partnered with Apple to create a new health tracking app for iPhone and Apple Watch.

Nicknamed Attain, the app is designed to track and reward people who adopt healthy behaviors. The more users exercise, practice a healthy activity and make their hearts vibrate, the more they earn rewards through the app. As time pbades and rewards accumulate, they can be converted into gift cards at retailers such as Amazon (amzn) and Best Buy (bby). The application even promises a free Apple Watch to people who earn enough rewards.

Apple and Aetna (aet) have been working on the app together since 2016, according to CNBC, which had previously reported on the software. This is part of a broader effort by health insurance companies to encourage people to improve their health and well-being in order to reduce their medical expenses. Apple (aapl) has also invested heavily in health and uses its technologies to give people more visibility on their well-being.

Attain will not be the first app to track users' health and offer rewards based on the activity. But it will be the first mashup between two titans of the health industry. And with the support of Apple in its App Store, it could be useful to put the application in front of many more people.

The new Attain app will be officially launched this spring.
