Lance Corporal Frederick Amanor Godzi, aka Skalla, who allegedly beat a woman from the shiashie branch of Midland Savings and Loans Limited, was released by the Accra Circuit Court.
Godzi was charged with badaulting allegedly defeated Ms. Patience Osafo, a Midland client, at her premises on July 19 2018when she went there to withdraw her money.
The court also released the three Midland officials who were on trial for allegedly helping Godzi attack Ms. Osafo.
It is Jocelyn Kukua-Fakah, Operations Manager, Shirley Portia Anaman, Customer Service Manager, and Prince Ayensu, Driver.
Checks by the Daily Graphic revealed that the four defendants had been released by the court presided over by Ms. Cecilia Dapaah Mireku in December 2018.
The court released the accused from the fact that Ms. Osafo was not interested in the trial.
She did not appear in court to testify.
She also failed to claim to badist the police in her investigations.
Public outrage
Godzi was captured in a video that then launched a viral attack on 36-year-old Ms. Osafo, who was carrying a baby and went to the Shiashie branch of Midland Savings and Loans to withdraw some of her savings according to GHS270.
Members of the public expressed outrage at the incident. Subsequently, the police officer was arrested and banned while the investigation into this case began.
Compensation
The reason why Ms. Osafo did not show any interest in the trial is unclear. Even prior to the release of Corporal Godzi by Corporal Godzi, his solicitor had asked the court to allow an amicable settlement on the grounds that the charge of badault would have been laid against his client. was not a crime but a crime.
In addition, a few days after the incident, Osafo's lawyers and Midland Savings and Loans entered into a compensation agreement.
Samson Lardi Anyenini, one of his lawyers, revealed that the company's savings and credit had offered him a generous deal for his ordeal.
