In 2011, the Public Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Directorate was prosecuted under FEMA and the Customs Act for recovering huge amounts of undeclared foreign currency from Rahat and his manager Maroof at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) of New Delhi.

The duo was arrested with an undeclared amount of 1.24 million lakh (approximately 455,500 Dh). They were allowed to leave the country after paying the fine.
