The true name of the variety is unknown, but it has become so popular
In 2013, an improved variety of cowpea commonly known as John Mahama beans was introduced at Atebubu Amantin in the Brong Ahafo area.
The actual name of the variety is unclear, but it has become so popular that over 50% of the farmers in a local community called Lailai now grow it.
They named this new variety after former President John Mahama because they claim that it is very productive just like the one that bears his name.
Joseph Opoku Gakpo, from Joy News's agriculture, environment and technology bureau, explored why this name.
