Before the transfer deadline, Thursday, various Premier League clubs badyze the market in a final attempt to increase the workforce.
One of these clubs is Arsenal.
Denis Suarez's move to North London has been confirmed by Barcelona. It will fill a gap in midfield for the Gunners. The next on the list of Unai Emery is a winger who adds a point of difference to his attack to fight his way and get behind his opponents.
The club understands that Yannick Carrasco would be present in the UAE as an alternative to Ivan Perisic, but which player would be the best option for Unai Emery?
Let's compare the two based on a number of key areas.
Game Styles
First, in terms of general playing styles, both players are very similar. When focusing on both options, it is clear that Emery wants a specific profile – it is essentially a very broad and direct threat from the left with an intensity commensurate with his game.
As far as Perisic is concerned, it may be the most stable defense option, as he works tirelessly for his team.
The Croatian naturally gives width by squeezing the sideline with consistency. Once he receives the ball in the offensive areas, he is inclined to get into 1v1.
Perisic prefers to stay wide when dribbling, carrying the ball often before crossing, rather than cutting inside.
As for Carrasco, this is a slightly more unpredictable version of Perisic.
Carrasco's work pace is good, and he naturally seeks to support his teammates rather than being a defensive pbadive.
Similar to Perisic, Carrasco is also a pbadionate dribbler, who has the direct nature of attacking his man in large areas, but he is more likely to cut inside than Inter Milan.
Creation of chance
In terms of offensive production, both players offer almost identical returns.
Carrasco scores an average of 0.26 goals per minute, compared to 0.28 for Perisic, and the scenario is the same when we focus on shots on target, with 2.67 against 2.78.
These are almost inseparable numbers, and even more interesting, the two players achieve exactly the same goals expected by 90, with 0.24 each (by Wyscout).
Perisic has on average more keys in the surface, more cross centers and a higher help rate.
This basically indicates that Perisic has more to his game in an attack ability, with a diversity that Carrasco can not match for the moment, or has not been instructed to do so.
In addition, Carrasco is much more likely to shoot from a distance, with 134 shots in 7,467 minutes, scoring a meager five goals. This is what is comparable to Perisic, who had only 112 shots, but 4,000 minutes more than the Belgian.
Dribble
In terms of dribbling, both are strong, but Carrasco is the most enthusiastic in competing for about twice the duels that Perisic achieves by 90.
Over the past four seasons, Carrasco has averaged just over ten dribbles out of 90.
This season, his average is even higher with 12, but this is probably due to the standard of the Chinese league in which he evolves.
In addition to engaging a lot of his opponents, Carrasco also has a high success rate, with 73%. These figures represent a dribbler very powerful and difficult to dispossess.
In comparison, Perisic averages 5.5 dribbles out of 90, with an amazing 81% success rate.
To put this success rate into perspective, the Lionel Messi rate over the same period is 80.6%.
This basically means that Perisic is much less likely to participate in the dribble than Carrasco, but when he does, he is more likely to succeed.
This is perhaps an indicator of good decision-making, Perisic choosing to his advantage to dribble a little more effectively than the Belgian.
spotting
In terms of defensive performance, both are still very good.
The pace of a player's work is clearly an important trait for Emery, especially considering his treatment of Mesut Ozil, and these two options fit the criteria perfectly.

Both are disciplined, ready to come back and have played for strategic clubs such as Inter Milan and Atletico. The intensity without balloon is therefore natural.
Given the additional experience of Perisic, his development in a strategic league and the fact that he makes good decisions, it is reasonable to think that he is the most badured of the defense.
There is no doubt that Carrasco's defensive performance is sufficient, but his more unpredictable nature on the ball can sometimes be detrimental to his team in terms of possession possession in the wrong sectors.

All in all, these two players are incredibly similar in terms of style of play and numbers.
This is a positive reflection of the Arsenal recruiting team, as Emery has identified a profile, and the scouting department has obviously been able to highlight two solid options.
Their similarity is demonstrated in the graph above (per-underat), based on the last four seasons but excluding the current campaign and the time spent by Carrasco in China.
In the end, both options would provide a level of productivity and would be beneficial for Arsenal. It depends on what Emery wants.
Perisic is the most stable, reliable and complete player, while Carrasco is younger, unpredictable and direct.
The fact that the comparison between the two wingers is so close suggests that the Gunners have a clear idea of the type of player profile they are looking for before the deadline.
It's up to Raul Sanllehi and his team, who have two viable targets, to make sure they get an agreement on the line before February.
