A group of highly skilled Ghanaian health professionals living in North America have finally decided to return home to contribute to effective health care delivery.
Founded as the Ghana Foundation of Physicians and Surgeons of North America with 1,500 specialists, the group says it wants to leverage its expertise in partnership with the private sector.
The idea is to make Ghana the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to equip itself with a modernized health system, able to meet all the health needs of its citizens, but also to improve the health system. attract other nationals.
The decision was announced by the first president of the foundation, Professor Elijah Paintsil, when the group's management, accompanied by members of the America Intercontinental Healthcare Group, paid a courtesy call on President Akufo-Addo at Jubilee House yesterday.
Professor Paintsil, a professor at Yale University, said the group wanted to give back to Ghana; the country that nurtured their career.
"We want to play our part in the development of Ghana. We have acquired the skills that Ghana needs and we need to benefit the country's health system, "he said.
He therefore called on the President to make their vision concrete, convinced that their efforts would contribute to his vision of a 'Ghana Beyond Aid', to which the foundation subscribed.
"We have been watching from the sidelines and we love your leadership style. We want to share with you a legacy you can leave, namely a modernized health system, "said Professor Paintsil.
President Akufo-Addo, obviously delighted, told the members of the foundation that "your mission is excellent, exceptionally positive and progressive".
For this reason, he said, "I have no difficulty in accepting the offer because it is of considerable benefit and I am quite willing to facilitate the idea as it is useful and beneficial, as it would improve the health care situation in the country. .
The president added that the quality of the Ghanaian medical staff, both at home and abroad, was never in doubt, and that if the members of the diaspora combined their vast expertise with their local counterparts, Ghana would be a better place.
He has therefore promised to do what is necessary for the intentions they have for the country to materialize.
