A mother is furious after her eight-month-old daughter has caught foot-and-mouth disease during her holidays in Ibiza.
Keri Fullerton and her partner accompanied their daughter Imogen to Family Life Club Aura for a vacation together last October.
Halfway through their holidays, however, eight-month-old Imogen quickly became ill.
"We booked a holiday with the British travel company Tui and traveled on October 3," Fullerton told Sun Online Travel.
"It's the Saturday when she started feeling a little bad. She is not a sick child and she has been sick overnight over and over, which was really strange. "
It was after spending the day in the kids' club that the on-site representatives realized that Imogen was sick.
"They noticed a rash on her and they said to go to the pharmacy and see if they had any lotion, which we did," Ms. Fullerton said.
"In the next 24 hours she was absolutely covered.
"It looked like leprosy. it was absolutely horrible. She was so bad. She was itching all the time while it was blistering.
Ms. Fullerton told the children's club staff, but she said there was not enough people on hand to help with the first appearance of the rash.
"My main complaint with Tui, is the fact that when she started with the rash, we went to the office and there was no representative," she said. declared.
"There was a training day that day, so there were no representatives available.
"There was just a piece of A4 paper pinned to a sign saying that there had been a recent outbreak of hands, feet and mouth at the hotel.
"However, another couple told us that he had been up for a few days before our arrival at the hotel. Tui was aware of the outbreak before we arrived.
"They certainly have a duty to inform us at least before we leave so we can decide whether to continue or not.
"I do not think we would have gone there, just because she was eight months old and I would not have wanted to expose her to the risk of knowing that there was an epidemic. "
Ms. Fullerton even feared that they could not go home after the holidays, so much Imogen was so sick.
"Fortunately, we managed to get home, went to the hospital and received treatment.
"The hospital thought he could leave scars on her," she said.
Hand-foot-mouth disease is a common viral infection in children. It is not related to foot-and-mouth disease in animals. It causes fever, general malaise and rash and blisters.
Ms Fullerton said that Imogen was suffering from eczema, which could also worsen as a result of the virus.
After returning to the UK, the baby Imogen took three weeks to improve, and Ms. Fullerton also caught the virus from her daughter.
However, that is the way Tui dealt with the problem that angered him.
"Since we came back, I have been in constant contact with them, but they always make fun of me with a generic apology," she said.
"They should inform people before they leave, because our holidays have been ruined.
"We only had a few days (there) before she got sick.
"At first, I just wanted to let them know that we had a bad experience, but a symbolic gesture from Tui would be fabulous, because there was nothing, or even really sorry.
