As part of the security measures, the police banned the movement of motorcycles in the riding during the election period.

Some 600 members of Ghana's police and immigration services would be deployed to Ayawaso West Wuogon during the elections.

The seat of the constituency became vacant following the death of Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The political parties running for the vacant seat are the new Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Progressive People's Party (PPP) and the Liberal Party of Ghana (GPL).

Candidates in the running are Ms. Lydia Seyram Alhbadan, from the NPP; Kwasi Delali Brempong, NDC; William Dowokpor, PPP, and Clement Boadi from LPG.
