New report estimates that nearly half of all US adults have some form of heart or blood vessel disease, a medical milestone mainly because of recent guidelines that have increased the number of people suffering from hypertension.

The American Heart Association indicates that more than 121 million adults were suffering from cardiovascular disease in 2016. Excluding people with high blood pressure, 24 million, or 9% of adults , present other forms of disease such as heart failure or clogged arteries.

High blood pressure is now considered a reading greater than 130 out of 80. It increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and many other problems. Only about half of those affected have the disease under control.
