The story of Mary Queen of Scots is closely linked to Scotland. It is therefore not surprising that the team behind the film decided to shoot in many beautiful places of the country.

The film follows the Scottish queen, who asked for help in England, but eventually spent most of her life in prison because of the threat she represented for the throne – occupied by his cousin Elizabeth I.

While her young life was spent in France after being smuggled out of the UK, the latest film starring Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan describes her later on, her life in Scotland, back to her age 19 years old.

Despite criticism of historical inaccuracies in the film, the places used are a reality.

Glen Coe

The BBC said the team was seen filming at Glen Coe. The area did not have many links with Mary, but it was the scene of the Glencoe Mbadacre. If that tells you anything, it is because it has become the inspiration of the Game of Thrones Red Wedding.

Strathdon, Aberdeenshire

The production took place in Strathdon, again, this is not related to the life of Mary Stuart, it is a beautiful region. There are many places to stay, as well as things to see.

East Lothian
