Just after lower the price of their advertising-funded subscription to compete Netflix, Hulu will soon be introducing more ads. This new advertising strategy is active when viewers pause a show or movie. Fortunately, these ads do not seem to be a problem because they will not appear in video form. Instead, they will appear as translucent pop-up windows on the viewing screen.

according to TechCrunch, the ads will appear as a typical driving display panel on the right side of the screen. The announcement will only appear after a few seconds of pause of the chosen content. This delay allows users to pause, rewind or fast forward.

In addition, ads will not appear on TV-MA episodes to avoid sensitive and potentially badually explicit placement. That said, companies will also be able to opt out of certain genres.

While Hulu subscribers are usually used to seeing video ads, Vice President Jeremy Helfand said it would be worrisome to use this type of ad as soon as the content is paused. In addition, Helfand indicates that many viewers stand up and do something else during ad serving, making them relatively useless for businesses.

"It can be shocking – you think you've suspended the content, but you still see the sight, sound and movement," says Helfand in a story with TechCrunch. Regarding the advertiser, he does not want to create a 30-second ad that the viewer does not see because he's gone to the kitchen or the bathroom or because he restores the break five seconds after the start of the advertisement.
