Hull City hired seasoned defenseman Liam Ridgewell for a short-term contract until the end of the season.

Ridgewell, 34, was an independent player who recently left Portland Timbers after more than four years with MLS. Before going to the United States, the center-back had accumulated nearly 350 appearances over long periods with Aston Villa, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion.

Previously, he had previously borrowed from Bournemouth, Wigan Athletic and Brighton & Hove Albion. He is now looking forward to returning to English football with the Tigers.

"I'm delighted to sign, having spent the last few days here practicing with the boys," said Ridgewell.

"It's good to be back in English football and in the league. The boys have really welcomed me and it's a team looking to go in the right direction. They ran well until last weekend. It is a group that is willing to work hard against each other and I hope to use my experience to help the team do a little more. "
