5 inches of snow and -14 ° C at night
Heavy snowfall affected much of southern England and Wales, leaving hundreds of people stuck in cars as temperatures plummeted.
The snow is at least 12 cm deep on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, and 5 cm was recorded in Sennybridge, Powys, according to the Met Office.
Temperatures in Braemar, Aberdeenshire, plunged Thursday evening into the evening at minus 14.5C, the lowest temperature recorded in the UK since 2012, according to the Met Office.
The snowfall already exceeds the maximum 10 cm expected when the forecaster issued a warning of bad weather for Thursday.
The snow, which has traveled to the east, has reached Wiltshire, Hampshire, Susbad and Kent, with some flakes in central London.
British Airways has canceled or amalgamated a number of short-haul flights departing from Heathrow Airport due to poor weather conditions.
Cornwall Airport, located near Newquay, had to close temporarily on Thursday because of the snow, and about 100 cars were stranded on a stretch of the A30 near Temple.
An "intensive effort" is underway to help motorists, according to chief inspector Adrian Leisk, head of the road police in Devon, Cornwall and Dorset.
