The OccupyGhana lobby group is proposing a large-scale independent investigation into the by-election process of Ayawaso West Wuogon.
The group said it was disappointed "that a by-election in Ghana's capital could escalate into such acts of violence, some of which were captured in images and videos circulating in mainstream and social media. ".
According to them, they "have difficulty understanding why members of the security forces badigned to electoral missions would have their faces covered, as they participated in special forces operations in a war zone. We find this unacceptable and a flagrant violation of modern police methods. "
They therefore call on the Government to immediately establish a competent investigating commission under Chapter 23 of the Constitution to investigate these matters.

OCCUPYGHANA CONDEMNS RECENT ELECTORAL VIOLENCE AND ASKS FOR AN INDEPENDENT INQUIRY
OccupyGhana has taken note with grave concern of reports of violence, including live ammunition, during the by-election held in the district of Ayawaso West Wuogon in Accra.
We are disappointed that a by-election in Ghana's capital may escalate into such acts of violence, some of which have been captured in images and videos circulating in mainstream and social media.
We condemn all these acts and call on the perpetrators of these acts to be brought to justice and punished in accordance with the law.
We note that the Ghanaian police said in a press release of 31 January 2019 that she would investigate incidents of violence. While agreeing that the police can investigate the cases in order to prosecute the offenders, we suggest that an independent body conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
Some video footage shows that some of the masked men accused of intimidation and violence, and certainly one of the people who badaulted a member of Parliament, were in vehicles bearing the name or insignia of the police. .
Police who are accused, at the very least, of complicity in these cases can not investigate the global issue of violence that has occurred.
We have a hard time understanding why security personnel recruited for electoral missions would have their faces covered, as they were involved in special forces operations in a war zone. We find this unacceptable and a flagrant violation of modern police methods.
This is why we are asking the government to immediately establish a competent investigating commission under Chapter 23 of the Constitution to investigate these issues. No person or group of people should be allowed to destroy our reputation, to disturb our peace and to denigrate the pillars of civility for which we have worked so hard.
