The Police Administration will today lift the ban on Lance Corporal Frederick Amanor Godzi, the police officer allegedly badaulting Ms. Patience Osafo at the Shiashie branch of Midland Savings and Loans Limited.

According to the police, this action followed the release of Godzi by a court last December, due to lack of interest in the trial of the victim.

Disciplinary procedure

A source close to the police headquarters, which revealed this information to the Daily Graphic in Accra yesterday, said that after the lifting of the ban, Master Corporal Godzi would be the object of A disciplinary procedure internal to the police.

It was stated there that he would resume his normal duties while he was following the disciplinary procedure.

Context

Godzi was charged with badaulting her allegedly defeating Ms. Osafo, a Midland client, on her premises when she went to withdraw her money on July 19, 2018.

Checks by the Daily Graphic revealed that the four accused in the case were acquitted by the court presided over by Ms. Cecilia Dapaah Mireku in December 2018.

The court released them because of Ms. Osafo's lack of interest in the trial.

She would not have appeared in court to testify and would not have had the opportunity to badist the police in her investigations either.

She allegedly failed to rely on the case several times, culminating in the court's decision, in December 2018, to return Corporal Godzi, aka Skalla, for want of prosecution.

The court also released three Midland Savings and Loans officials alleged to have helped Godzi attack Ms. Osafo.

It is Jocelyn Kukua-Fakah, head of operations; Shirley Portia Anaman, Customer Service Manager, and Prince Ayensu, Driver.

The accused had been charged with badault and battery and had pleaded not guilty.

Petition

In the meantime, Ms. Osafo has asked the Attorney General to ask Godzi to be released for lack of prosecution.

She also wants the prosecutor in charge of the investigation to be investigated for possible collusion with the police officer released in order to escape him.

A petition dated January 29, 2019 and signed by Ms. Osafo's lawyer, Mr. Samson Lardy Anyenini, stated that she was "appalled and distraught" by reports that Godzi had been released for want of prosecution. "and wishes to unequivocally declare misled by the fact that she was disinterested and uncooperative".
