NEW YORK (AP) – Brooklyn rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine pleaded guilty to federal charges, admitting his involvement in a violent gang and promising to cooperate with other prosecutors.

The rapper, whose legal name is Daniel Hernandez, made the request last week. Information about him was unsealed on Friday in Manhattan Federal Court.

During the call, 6ix9ine stated that he had joined the gang of Nine Trey Blood in the fall of 2017. He stated that he had helped gang members to attempt to kill a member of a rival gang last March.

Thanks to the plea agreement, 6ix9ine can obtain clemency when sentencing what would otherwise have been a mandatory minimum of 47 years in prison if it admits all crimes and testifies truthfully when convened .

A message asking for comment was left to the lawyers of 6ix9ine.
