Yayra says Reverend Asante is a huge threat to peace and stability in the country
National Democratic Congress activist Yayra Koku Deku sent a response to the President of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, for attacking former President Mahama following the latter's reaction to violence during the NDC by-elections.
According to Yayra Koku, the president of the Peace Council is himself a serious threat to the peace and stability of the country. He said Reverend Asante had always made selective comments about the violence, wondering why the president of the Peace Council had not condemned the violence on Ningo Prampram's deputy, Sam George, but had quickly condemned former president John Mahama.
Reverend Asante had called on former President John Dramani Mahama to apologize to the nation for declaring that the opposing National Democratic Congress (NDC) will oppose the new ruling party, the new patriotic party, in power, in the 2020 elections.
Mahama, speaking to NDC delegates in the Adaklu constituency of the Volta region on Thursday, January 31, 2019, said the NDC would match the NPP in the 2020 elections if the government was attempting to intimidate and harbad NDC supporters in a violent manner. .
The former president's comment followed a shootout at the La-Bawaleshie JHS poll in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election that same day. The NDC has accused the NPP of being behind the shooting.
Mr Mahama said: "We will not be joking in 2020, and I throw a warning to the NPP – we will compare them, start after start …"
"I want to remind you that NDC has a revolutionary root and that when it comes to unleashing violence, no one can beat us. We simply want to keep the democracy of this country in mind and that is why we must be the first to respect it. "

"It's hypocrisy at the highest level," he added.
