From Guillermo del Toro Scary stories to tell in the dark adaptation of the film got an official poster that recreates an iconic illustration of the books. Alvin Schwartz Scary stories books were published from 1981 to 1991 and have since terrorized / traumatized several generations of children who have read them. The three books are composed of short stories inspired by various urban legends and folklore that Schwartz has studied throughout his writing. Of course, Stephen Gammell's original illustrations for the series are perhaps as famous and as nightmarish as the stories themselves.
Some of Gammell's most memorable (and most horrific) illustrations include stories such as "The Red Spot" and "The Wonderful Sausage", in addition to his illustrations for the cover of the book. However, of all the images that Gammell has created, one of the most famous (if not the the most famous) is that of a scarecrow named Harold. This makes it all the more appropriate as the del toro poster Scary stories The adaptation gives life to the bird scary not very friendly.

CBS Films released the official Scary stories Online movie poster at about the same time that del Toro has tweeted it since his official Twitter account (see below). CBS Films also tweeted the message "This Sunday will be scary", which suggests that the first trailer of the film will arrive just before, after or during the Super Bowl LIII this weekend.
The story "Harold" was featured in Scary stories 3: More tales to cool your bones and tells the story of two cow breeders who make a Harold-inspired scarecrow (a farmer whom they both hate) and continue to be mean … which turns out to be a terrible idea once the scarecrow begins to enliven. It's nice to see the Scary stories movie paying tribute to its original material in such a respectful way here. The live-action Harold certainly looks as scary and phantasmagorical as the version drawn by Gammell all these years. Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that the Toro movie is not strictly based on the story "Harold" or on a particular collection of stories from Alvarez.
According to his synopsis, Scary stories follows a group of young teenagers trying to solve the mystery behind a series of "macabre" murders in their hometown. The scenario of the film, written by del Toro with the Hageman brothers (Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia), should have several monsters from Alvarez's stories, including Harold. Presumably, the murderous scarecrow is somehow related to the dead in the story of the film. With del Toro as a writer and André Øvredal – director of the famous horror thriller The autopsy of Jane Doe – call the shots on Scary storiesit's a safe bet that Harold will be as bizarre on the big screen as on the printed page.
