A series B clash between Lecce and Ascoli was stopped after the loss of consciousness of a player as a result of a clash of disgusting heads.
Lecce midfielder Manuel Scavone was cold on the ground and was rushed to hospital following a violent collision with his opponent.
The match had barely begun as Scavone fought for the lead with Giacomo Beretta.
But the two players collided and a video sequence shows the Lecce man lose consciousness even before touching the ground.
His teammates and his opponents quickly understood the gravity of the incident and rushed to his aid before calling an ambulance.
Scavone, 31, was immediately taken to the hospital before players on both teams decided not to continue the match.
After a brief consultation of his badistants, the official agreed to the players and suspended the proceedings.
Reports in Italy indicate that Scavone is in a stable state and has regained consciousness before arriving at the hospital.
The tests on his head showed that he had not suffered any internal bleeding, but he will remain under close surveillance for 24 hours.
