RABAT, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) – At least nine people have died of H1N1 flu in Morocco, Health Minister Anas Doukkali said on Saturday.
Doukkali stressed during a press release that the number of reported cases remains "normal" compared to previous years.
The H1N1 flu is also the dominant subtype this year, with more than 80%, according to the World Health Organization, he added.
He added that the health authorities are closely monitoring the epidemiological situation in the country.
He urged the elderly, children under five, pregnant women and patients with chronic diseases to be cautious and get vaccinated against the flu.
The confirmation of the first death of the H1N1 virus on Monday caused some concern among the local population.
The minister said the number of people hospitalized increased slightly this week.
