A witness in Saturday's scrum told Mirror Online that the men were lined up inside the Lagan Bar and that the man had overflowed into an area where people were waiting for their flights.
He said men were screaming before catching weapons.
The witness said: "They were throwing fire extinguishers and baskets in the shops and everything that came to hand.
"They also hit each other with poles holding ads in the bars, no idea what triggered the fight."
"It took about 20 minutes for the police to arrive."
The witness stated that some of the men grabbed mops to attack the larger group and that they "claimed that the mops were firearms".
The witness stated that the police had arrived, had calmed the situation and separated the men.
He added: "The fight broke out between two groups of men [flying to] Manchester and Stansted.
"The police separated the groups and let them board their planes as planned."
A Belfast International Airport spokeswoman told Belfast Live: "An altercation between two groups of pbadengers occurred tonight in the airside departures area.
"The police were present and the incident has since been resolved."
