Ghana's Richard Commey made a brilliant performance to beat Russian Isa Chaniev and become the new IBF lightweight world champion.
As it was his second shot for the same title after his defeat in 2016 against Robert Easter Jnr, Commey started in a very positive manner, attacking the Russian from the beginning with a series of strokes combined at the beginning of the first round.
Commey then hit Chaniev late in the first round with a right hook in the side of the head, but the Russian managed to beat the count and was saved by the bell at the end of the round.
Commey maintained his domination on second base and allowed Chaniev to come back just 10 seconds after the start of the second round, with a powerful left hook.
The Russian beat the count, but it was clear that he was barely holding it, and Commey bore the final blow with a big left hook to send Chaniev to collapse for the third time and l? referee ended the bout barely 40 seconds after the start of the second round.
Commey now becomes the 9th World Champion in Ghana and will have a chance to unify the division on April 12 against Vasyl Lomachenko.
