The plane that transports Emiliano Sala was found and his family was informed.

The wreckage of the aircraft was discovered Sunday morning by a boat research on the seabed of the English Channel.

Sala and pilot David Ibbotson are missing after the death of the plane Piper Malibu on January 22.

David Mearns, who ran Sala's research, tweeted: "The wreckage of the plane carrying Emiliano Sala and piloted by David Ibbotson was located early this morning by FPV MORVEN.

"As agreed with the AAIB, they moved the GEO OCEAN III on the position we provided them to visually identify the aircraft by ROV.

"The families of Emiliano Sala and David Ibbotson have been notified by the police.The AAIB will make a statement tomorrow.This evening, our only thoughts are with Emiliano's families and friends and David. "



Sala in action for Nantes

Shortly before his death, Sala had signed for Cardiff City under a record contract with his club.

He had already written the Bluebirds before flying to France to bid farewell to his former teammates and his staff.

But on his planned return to South Wales, the aircraft carrying the attack disappeared from the radar.

Cardiff played his first home game since his death against Bournemouth on Saturday, winning 2-0.
