In his address, Professor Nizamul Hasan stated that he had initiated a cancer awareness program in schools and was concerned that very young children would use betal nuts and other addictive substances. Citing the World Health Organization, Dr. Mohammad Ali Memon said that 18 to 21 million new cases of cancer are reported each year worldwide, while more than 9.5 million patients die as a result of cancer.
